• Kemp to make long awaited return at WPGA Championship

Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour veteran Sarah Kemp will make her return to golf in front of an Aussie home crowd at the 2025 Australian WPGA Championship on the Gold Coast from March 6-9.

A 12-time winner on the WPGA Tour of Australasia, Kemp will step onto The Palms Course at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club to mark her first competitive golf tournament in more than six months.

The 39-year-old has been sidelined from the sport since last August having broken her tibia and fibula in an unfortunate golf cart accident which required subsequent surgery.

With a career in professional golf that spans more than 20 years, Kemp has been a member on the WPGA Tour of Australasia, LET and LPGA Tours.

Turning professional in 2005, Kemp joined the ALPG Tour before joining the LET in 2006 where she recorded three top-10 finishes in her rookie season. She went on to be crowned the New Zealand Women’s Open winner in 2010.

After a stellar 2019 season, which included a runner-up finish at the Vic Open, Kemp was crowned the ALPG Order of Merit Winner that same year.

By the end of 2024 season, Kemp is ranked fifth on the WPGA Tour of Australasia’s all-time Order of Merit, behind only Karrie Webb, Laura Davies, Katherine Kirk and Su Oh.

Kemp said she’s proud of her recovery and is looking forward to making her return.

“It’s been a long six months to get to where I am today,” Kemp said.

“In August of last year, a golf cart ran into my right leg and broke both my tibia and fibula. It was a compound fracture and I had emergency surgery. I continue to go to rehab and will probably continue it for most of this year.

“It’s definitely not 100 per cent, but it’s good enough to compete. I can’t think of a better place to start my comeback than at home in Australia.

“I’m very excited to play the WPGA Championship at such a fantastic venue in Sanctuary Cove.”

WPGA Tour of Australasia CEO Karen Lunn said Kemp’s return at the WPGA Championship marks a very special occasion not only for Kemp, but the entire golf community.

“What a journey it has been for Sarah to get to here,” Lunn said.

“I know a lot of people admire her resilience to return from such a terrible setback. It will be extra special to see her make her return to the sport in front of a home crowd in Australia who I know will be cheering her on.”

Kemp joins fellow Australian Grace Kim and LET players Cara Gainer and Chiara Tamburlini who have also been named in the WPGA Championship field.

“With some strong home-grown and international talent already named in the line-up, we hope the Australian crowds are excited to see some outstanding golf played at one of the most renowned courses in our country at Sanctuary Cove,” Lunn added.

As part of the event, The Gold Coast Festival of Golf will combine the thrill of the game with an unforgettable festival atmosphere, featuring live music, pop-up bars, dedicated participation zones, interactive experiences, plus golf and lifestyle displays showcasing the latest and greatest in golf.

Tickets to the WPGA Championship are now available via Ticketek and are just $15 for adults, with kids 17-and-under free.

The Saturday and Sunday of the 2025 Australian WPGA Championship will be broadcast live from 12pm-5pm AEDT on 9GEMHD and 9Now, and on Fox Sports available on Foxtel and Kayo.
