Local favourite Becky Kay came from behind to steal victory on day one of The Athena - The Combine wearing Adidas at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club yesterday.
Kay, a member of Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club trailed fellow Queenslander and one of the event favourites, Karis Davidson, heading into the last of the nine skills challenges, and nailed the 25 metre putt challenge taking the 12 points on offer for the winner of the challenge and heads into day 2 of The Athena, the Callaway Reva Playoffs as the number one seed.
For winning The Combine wearing Adidas, Kay will be offered a one year apparel sponsorship from Adidas.
Kay was clearly delighted with the day one victory,
"I am just so stoked to come out on top and win today. Playing at my home course in front of my home crowd here at Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club, especially with my mum and dad and my pop watching makes it even more special"
Day 2 of the Athena, the Callaway Reva Playoffs will tee off at 1240 NSW time with four 5-hole matches.
Match One will see Kay taking on Victorian Julienne Soo, who qualified for the playoffs as the number 8 seed after a dramatic final green putt-off against Wollongong's Tahnia Ravnjak.
